a HANGING CROSS or THE ONE HANGING on the CROSS?

February 2, 2019

The cross of Christ was never intended to be a statue of “reverence,” but rather a reminder of God’s love being relentless. Sure, one can look at a crucifix and shed a tear, but let us never think that Jesus’ living love and life should be reduced to a statue just hanging there. Because in the midst of tragedy, I never met a person who said “the statue saved me.” Nope. Only the risen Lord is the reason I am a forgiven man. And yes a hanging cross may remind me of this love, but the hanging cross has no power from above. It’s just a point of reference, but at the end of the day, only Jesus Christ should be our point of reverence.
