God should have came down on us with wrath, but instead He chose to come down to us with mercy. In Christ, He loved us so He came to us, and He came to us so He could save us. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
