Memorial Day is more than a date on the calendar or a long weekend at the shore. It is a reminder that freedom has always carried a cost paid by sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, friends, and neighbors who were willing to lay their lives down for something greater than themselves. While many enjoy comfort today, countless families carry empty seats because someone chose service and sacrifice. As believers, we should never only celebrate freedom; we should steward it with gratitude, humility, prayer, and reverence. May we never forget those who never made it home so we could remain safe in ours. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends" (John 15:13).
