To appease the flesh is to disease the soul. Meaning, when the flesh is rewarded, the soul is emptier for it. And because there is a hole in the soul, nothing in this world can make it full. Only Christ can heal, fill, and satisfy the soul. "My soul thirsts for You" (Psalm 63).
