THE TENSION OF TRANSFORMATION

One evidence that a person is being sanctified is the growing tension between the Spirit and the flesh. Where they once would have naturally chosen the path of least resistance according to the flesh, they now increasingly choose to walk by the Spirit. And even when they do stumble, they are quick to repent because they recognize they have grieved the Holy Spirit. Both are biblical evidences of God's sanctifying work, as He progressively conforms us to the image of His Son, not the basis of our salvation, but the fruit of it. “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish” (Galatians 5:17).
