Ever hear a hissing sound and thought nothing of it? I highly doubt it, because it is usually the hissing sound that tells us something is leaking – like a bike tire. Not too major of a problem, but neither is it minor, while still requiring the “hiss” to be plugged up and fixed. Thus, in the bike tire example, the hissing tells us that there’s a hole in the tube, making the slight leak hinder the entire bike’s use. And if you do not address the “hisssssing,” you very well could hurt yourself when using the bike.Further, sometimes the hissing can be even more catastrophic like a gas leak or a pipe fault. And anyone who has ever heard a “hissing” in a house, basement, or garage, usually seeks to immediately find the leak, fix the leak, and if necessary, “shut down” the leak. If it is gas, the neglect of such “hisssssing” could be deadly! So if we are alarmed when a minor tire hisses or a major pipeline hisses, how come we are not on the same “guard” when a hater’s mouth hisses? One, who like a snake, hisses words to diss or dismiss. And like Judas, sometimes the hiss is disguised as a kiss. Was it not the cunning serpent in the Garden of Eden that hissed deception in Eve’s ear, giving her half the truth, which was a full-lie that caused the world’s whole-fall? Yes it was the serpent’s hiss that deafened God’s word to Eve because of what she chose to listen to and perceive.LIKE the bike tire’s leaking hiss, the tongue’s hiss is also deflating. Yet, UNLIKE the pipe’s leaking hiss which can be shut down before explosion, the snakes sneaking hiss automatically shuts you down to confusion! So why are our ears less likely to catch the hater’s hisssssses when it’s they who “split” soon after giving their slithery advice, gossip, or 2cents? Should not valid advice come from a valid source, not a “leaking” and “venting” tongue? So here's the lesson: Just like a leaking hiss that causes our ears to perk up on attention, let us also be sensitive to the misleading hiss that can cause our minds to cramp up with contention.
