I’m only 2 months displaced from the place of prison and my freedom reminds me that there is no freedom in freedom itself. I’ve caught myself from time to time becoming imprisoned once again to the flow of freedom. Caught up with the “go-go-go” of freedom. And I realize more than ever that it is the fast pace of freedom that creates a paradoxical prison. IT’s the false idea that thinks, because you are moving, you are in motion. But movement never means motion, especially when the most progressive form of movement is in fact stillness. Stillness before an Almighty and ALL-moving God, who never stops working for you, even when you stop looking for Him.So it’s in moments like these where I realize that my location has nothing to do with my liberation. I was freer in prison than I am—sometimes—out here. And those “sometimes” are the very times where SOMEthing or SOMEone or SOMEplace takes the place of God’s performance in my life, which is called grace. It’s when I allow SOME of the world to take space in the new creation of me; where the new summation of me is Christ in me, the hope of God’s glory. You see, when even just a little bit of the world blocks the magnificent glory of the Son, you get an eclipse. And like the moons that we are, without God’s light and life in our lives, we remain dark and imprisoned by a vastness of outer space called “freedom.” So much room to move; yet actually not going anywhere whatsoever. There is truly no freedom in freedom itself. Just a lot of space to get lost because we’re moving in the wrong direction. I don’t want to move horizontally to the plain of my own plan. That terrain leads to nothing compared to God’s everything, no matter how “successful” it looks.I’ve spoken several times in these past two months, I’ve participated in a prison reform panel with former Governor McGreevey, I’ve done an interview for a global radio show called “Amazing Hope Radio,” and so much more. Yet none of these mentioned vehicles would be blessings if they were not traveled in the right direction—Upward. And that’s opposed to my default direction, which is the true One Direction of humanity--Downward. No offense to the Internationally acclaimed pop-star group, but without Christ as your connection, what’s temporary success compared to eternal devastation? The Instagram pics may look good and the tweets may sound good, but again, without Jesus as the thesis, there is no point for me to even speak this. I’m just telling the truth and that is the only reason why I’m free. The truth has a name—It’s Jesus!
