What feels uncontrolled to us is never uncontrolled by God. Evil may be permitted for a season, but it is never sovereign; God determines its reach and its expiration. Whatever you are facing today, remember that it can go only as far and last only as long as God allows. “The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19).
When you have Jesus Christ in your heart, it is possible to live in the land of affliction and not become a prisoner of it. Because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty in spite of adversity. "Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (II Corinthians 3:17).

As long as Christ has us here as the salt of the earth, we need to delay the decay of the day by being in the Way. Because whatever we permit, we promote. "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men" (Matthew 5:13).

The only way for God to disown our sin from us is if we first own our sin before Him. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
God allows trouble to touch our lives, not so that we lose faith, but so that we use faith. So like Job, let us say, "The Lord gives and the Lord takes, blessed be the name of the Lord" (Job 1:21).
I haven’t stopped thinking about a question that came in during the final minutes of Wednesday night’s question-and-answer service. There are so many times in this post-prison journey where I am in utter awe of God and how He works out His perfectly designed plan for our lives—often in spite of us. Our performance doesn’t enhance or reduce God’s faithfulness. And with that opening sentence, it is my utmost privilege to report that God is still in the salvaging business despite our idea behind our own personal usefulness.
