It’s easy to become so focused on what God might do next that we overlook what He has placed before us today. Faithfulness begins with the next act of obedience, the person who needs our care, and the truth we already know to live. Trust Him with tomorrow, and be faithful with today. “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
Without affliction, we often don’t change our direction. As David wrote, “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey Your word” (Psalm 119:67). In other words, God will allow an affliction to grace our lives to move us closer to His life.
Fear is a liar. Faith is a fueler. Choose your agent of influence wisely. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind" (II Timothy 1:7).
An ounce of intimacy with Jesus weighs more than a ton of theology without Him. Because the Christian's power and purity can only come out of the outflow of the time spent with Jesus.
When we live under the fear of man, we are saying that people are big and God is small. Therefore, in order for the fear of man to decrease in our lives, the fear of the Lord must increase in our lives. It's simple math.
If you are always caring about what other people think of you, how can you focus on the love that God has for you?
Patience is tested through hard times, not easy times. Therefore, embrace the adversity that God has allowed into your life as the means to strengthen the tenacity of your heart.
I haven’t stopped thinking about a question that came in during the final minutes of Wednesday night’s question-and-answer service. I recognize that many people have sincere and important questions surrounding this subject, so I wanted to reply with a more organized answer. Someone asked, “Why doesn’t Landmark Church have a deliverance ministry?”
There are so many times in this post-prison journey where I am in utter awe of God and how He works out His perfectly designed plan for our lives—often in spite of us. Here I sit on my comfortable couch with a 55-inch flat screen tv in front of me and my state of the art MacBook on top of me. His name is Little John.” ✝ I say that jokingly in assemblies sometimes, and it certainly gets the audience laughing; because at this point in the presentation, they have already heard me share a story about Little John and I, which involves some prison drama and a tense showdown with some gang members. Of course I couple the story with his picture to drive the oxymoron home about Little John--not being so little......
Our performance doesn’t enhance or reduce God’s faithfulness. And with that opening sentence, it is my utmost privilege to report that God is still in the salvaging business despite our idea behind our own personal usefulness. Sarah and I recently participated in a youth event in Pennsylvania where I was the keynote speaker of the night. I’ve done this particular “presentation” before, which requires PowerPoint slides and embedded video; for it is the most structured way to tell my story without getting caught up in certain areas and timelines.
