You’ll find two types of blogs here: long-form (Blog) & short-form (Daily Dose).
When we lose our desperation for the Lord, we lose our dependence, because self-sufficiency always replaces surrender. Desperation isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s the birthplace of deeper trust. David cried out, not because God couldn’t hear, but because his soul couldn’t...
We can own our guilt because the Lord has atoned for our guilt. We can disown our regret because it is impossible to change past events. And thus, after we have owned our guilt and disowned our regret, we can hone in on grace because our...
Building your house on the Rock doesn't exempt you from the storms of life, it only prepares you for them. God has a plan with even our difficulties; and He doesn't need us to understand them, He just wants us to lean on Him to withstand them. Thus, building...
Joy may be seen with a smile—but deep and abiding joy is clearly seen through a trial. You see, joy becomes the composure of the soul when we surrender to the truth that God is always in control. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you...
Great souls are ones that experience great sorrows. We may not like the feel of a sorrow, but when placed into the hands of God, we can begin to heal and become stronger for tomorrow. Thus, in God's economy, no pain is wasted, and everything is...
God's peace is for the present. In other words, it's a present peace. So when we the live in the past or we stress the future, God's present peace can no longer be peace in the present. You see, in order for God's peace to be present, our minds...
It is easy to charge God with wrong when we are wrong about God’s charge. You see, if we think God the Father is more like the Godfather, then we will assume God is out to get us. But He is not out to get us, but rather, His perfect providence is intended...
Comparative Analysis: Christianity vs. Islam Revelation and Textual Integrity: The Bible vs. The Quran • Muhammad claimed to have received revelations from the angel Gabriel for about 23 years, starting in 609 AD. The result was a sea of contradictions...
The blog heard ‘round the world. No seriously, why can’t I think this way? I mean, why shouldn’t I believe what Jesus Himself has said, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father” (John 14:12). Jesus gives us the authority to believe...
I wrote the piece below when I was inmate #314525E. You see, many people view my life now from the vantage point of, “Isn’t he lucky that so many things have worked out for him.” And so, I want to remind you where this piece was penned—in a dark place, often surrounded by lots of shady people and in the vice-grip of a system that is bent on squeezing the worst out of you. And yet because I understood WHO my God was/is---I NEVER lost hope and determined to deal hope to all those who the Lord placed around me---within prison and now outside of prison. So…as you read this piece, ponder the question of whether you are a dealer or a stealer?
There is so much beauty in vulnerability. Consider the many distressful Psalms in the Bible, penned by King David during moments of fatigue, failure, or frustration. Yet, through the transparency of the hurt comes the clarity of the Healer--and therefore hope and encouragement to all those reading them. Recently, I have had the pleasure of hearing testimonies from some of my students and peers alike. Actually, we were in the middle of breaking down “the Law of His Instrument”, a concept from my book, ‘U MAY B THE ONLY BIBLE SOMEBODY READS’. The “law” states that “surrendering to the grip of grace will hold you up to a higher standard of influence.” Meaning, when we....
“Do you go to medical?” That was a question repeatedly posed to me by a fellow inmate. The intent of the question was to figure out what drug I was taking. You see, in prison, men line up in droves to go to medical with the hopes of having legal drugs dispensed to them for a wide variety of reasons. I explained to this inmate that I wasn’t on any drugs and that I had never been to medical. He then inquired, “Then why do you look so happy all the time? After all, this is prison.” That whole exchange still brings a smile to my face as that question gave me an opportunity to testify about the peace that the Lord had encompassed me with in prison. Many would say...
