You’ll find two types of blogs here: long-form (Blog) & short-form (Daily Dose).
Worry borrows tomorrow’s problems but spends today’s peace. The weight we imagine for the future often crushes our joy in the present. But God doesn’t ask us to carry tomorrow, He invites us to cast every care onto Him today. “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
Christ cannot be our present source of peace if we are constantly trying to chase the worlds pace. You see, when the heart stops running, peace begins reigning. "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful" (Colossians 3:15).
The heart of all our countries problems is a problem of the heart. If the heart of man doesn't change, then nothing will change. And only the Gospel of Jesus Christ can do that. "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).
The fastest way to lose sight of what God has called you to is to begin caring what others think of you. Fearing man ensnares; but fearing the Lord inspires. "The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe" (Proverbs 29:25).
Christians are to be counter to culture, while at the same time being the character of culture. In other words, salt changes what it touches but is not changed by the touch. Likewise, Christians are to be the godly influence of the world but we are not to be influenced by the ungodly world.
The blessings of God are not for the self-sufficient but for the poor in spirit. You see, to know we are bankrupt without Christ is to make us dependent upon His life. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:3).
When the going gets tough, don't give up, but rather know that Christ is enough. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13)
On Labor Day weekend, I’ll begin a new teaching series at Landmark Church titled “The Last Revelation: Countdown To The Kingdom.” For the past several months, I’ve been studying, praying, and seeking the Lord in preparation for what He desires to...
In honor of the Christmas season and the fact that my brother John’s upcoming 10th anniversary to heaven (December 15th ) is upon us, I thought it was fitting to post a Christmas column that my mom wrote a year after his death. The year Jesus Himself showed up at Christmas. May it bless all of those who are grieving a loss during this season. You can hear more about grief and the holidays in this week’s radio podcast ‘HIS BIRTH is GREATER than DEATH.’ You can tune in by clicking on the "Matt & Mom Live!" tab at my website, www.themattmaherstory.com. WHEN JESUS CAME CALLING By Andrea Maher I love Christmas. I never tire of the beauty of this season.....
Imagine the thrill of just seeing your child graduate from high school— all the excitement of a bright future filling your heart. It is one of those pinnacle days for any parent. And then imagine, just hours later, at midnight, getting a knock at your front door and opening it to see a group of somber police officers asking, “Are you Dr. Verea?” And then the news that would implode the world of Dr. Jorge and Lourdes Verea. Their precious daughter Rebeka was dead....
Nothing long today, but strong in every way. Not so wide either, but deep. It’s the difference between seed and sod. It’s the contrast between root growing and surface showing. It’s the polarized results of the “here I am” perspective and the “there you are” objective. One way leads to life, while the other way leads to strife. Seed goes deep and pushes up....
I’m not actually sure where this month has gone, wow! Thanksgiving 2009 seems like it was just yesterday. It was my last Thanksgiving as a free man for at least the next 5 years. And I can recall wishing that the time would slow down, as January 7, 2010, my sentencing day, was quickly approaching. If we fast-forward to now, Thanksgiving 2011, you would think I....
