Christ is either Lord of all or He is not Lord at all. In other words, we are either trusting Him with all things (the good, the bad, the ugly) because He is able, or our trust in Him is selective and thereby unstable. You see, comfort and confidence...

God is faithful, even when we are faithless. He is gracious, even when we are graceless. He loves us in spite of us. And He won't abandon His work of grace in us. "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6).

The world's pleasures cannot fix the soul's problems. And to turn to them is to have them eventually turn on you. You see, truth be told, only Jesus can fill the hole in the soul. "For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things" (Psalm 107:9).

If the mind can't get past the past, then the heart will never know God's presence in the present. You see, it's only in the now where God's presence makes one new.
