In Psalm 42, the psalmist describes wave after wave of adversity crashing over his soul. Deep sorrow was calling to deeper sorrow. Yet centuries later, an even greater "deep" would answer. The depths of Christ's suffering on the cross cried out to the depths of the tomb, and from that collision came resurrection victory. Because Jesus entered the deepest waters for us and emerged triumphant, no depth of despair is beyond the reach of His redeeming power. “Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me” (Psalm 42:7).
